Scales, glistening like sapphires
In the frothy white waves,
Sassy little shellphone pressed against her starfish-studded ears,
Beaded, beautiful bikini,
Strung with silver seashells that shine.
Lobster-red lipstick,
Barnacle blush,
Colorful, coral clutch.
Diving with dolphins,
Laughing with lionfish,
Sunbathing on rocks bejeweled with moss,
Combing her curly, lengthy locks
As the sky steals the golden sun,
And the ocean is washed in magical moonlight.
At midnight, the mermaid sings her siren song.
Every eel, jellyfish, and penguin pauses,
Starfish sway, whales waltz,
Sailors plug their ears and curse and pray,
Men on land stand entranced,
And young women dance,
Drinking in the mermaid’s elixir
Of wild womanhood,
Fun, devoted sisterhood,
Feminine fire,
And a destiny as endless as the sea.
