When it heats up, all we really want is ice cream, right? So here’s the best ice cream places in Utah County based on taste, atmosphere, and other fun metrics.

1. Brooker’s Founding Flavors Ice Cream

If you want an ice cream experience that’ll rock your world, go to Brooker’s! Located in Provo and Vineyard, Brooker’s features homemade ice cream with a colonial twist. The entire restaurant is decked out in an early American, Founding Fathers style. Even the ice cream flavors have historical names, like “Patrick Henry’s Give Me Chocolate or Give Me Death.” Brooker’s is gaining in popularity and is franchising now, so as they say on their website, “Join the ice-cream revolution!”

My personal recommendation: Try “Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride.” Talk about chocolate heaven!

Score: 10/10 Taste; 10/10 Atmosphere; 10/10 Unique Brand #1 Best Ice Cream in Utah County

2. Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream

Stepping into a Handel’s ice cream shop is never a wrong move. Their style is bright and colorful. While they typically have limited seating inside compared to other ice cream shops, the value of their ice cream is unmatched. Handel’s boasts having over 100+ flavors, and they slay. Finally, you can have Oreo and Cookie Dough together! They offer not only one of the best-tasting ice creams, but some of the best-tasting flavors.

Tip: Try their New Frosted Animal Cookie flavor!

Score: 10/10 Taste; 7/10 Atmosphere (limited seating); 10/10 Types of Flavors #2 Best Ice Cream in Utah County

3. Rockwell Ice Cream

Rockwell is a classy, fun shop located in Provo. With its elegant vibe, it’s branded in my mind as the quintessential first-or-third date ice cream place. What also sets Rockwell apart is its diverse range of flavors. With flavors like Honeycomb, Biscoff, and Piña Colada, Rockwell is an excellent choice when you want to spice up your usual ice cream run.

Score: 9/10 Taste; 9.5/10 Atmosphere (can get crowded); 10/10 Place for a Date #3 Best Ice Cream in Utah County

4. BYU Creamery

Located in Provo, we simply cannot leave out the BYU Creamery! A staple in many college students’ lives, the BYU Creamery has a wide range of flavors and offers indoor and outdoor seating areas. The BYU Creamery also conveniently has a grill with meal options and doubles as a grocery store.

My personal recommendation: Graham Canyon and Strawberry Sundae Crunch (similar to Graham Canyon but with a strawberry kick!)

Score: 9/10 Taste; 8/10 Atmosphere; 9/10 Convenience #4 Best Ice Cream in Utah County

5. Little Acorn

We’ve got to give a nod to the drive-ins. Little Acorn is one such restaurant located in Spanish Fork. They offer great burgers, BLT’s, and thick shakes. Their marshmallow flavor is phenomenal! A classic American diner vibe is always in style. Other nice options: Polar Queen Drive Inn in Payson and Barry’s in Spanish Fork.

Score: 8/10 Taste; 9/10 Atmosphere; 9/10 Experience #5 Best Ice Cream in Utah County

Honorable Mentions

  • Cold Stone Creamery is always an excellent option with quality ice cream. Their cake batter flavor is divine.
  • Dairy Queen gets a rap for being more fast-food style, but on a hot day, there’s nothing better than a Cookie Dough DQ Blizzard.
  • Creamy Dreams in Springville is a hidden gem. Check out fun flavors, and while you’re at it, go next door and grab pizza from Pier 49.
  • If you’re into Italian ice, go to Zeppe’s in Springville. You can add ice cream to your flavored ice! Really refreshing choice for the summer.
  • Okay, so it’s not in Utah County…but you got to go to Dairy Keen in Heber City. Their ice cream is unparalleled. They have a giant train and a Hogwarts Express. My recommendation is their cake batter shake.

*If you’re interested in my credentials, I’m a long-time lover of ice cream. I’ve tasted many different types of ice cream, and rarely go a couple of weeks without consuming it.
