Get Your Twerk On
Are squats a part of your workout? If so, here’s some fun exercise ideas: Twerk! Dance! Literally do a twerking motion with each squat (or for me, an awkward shake that almost resembles twerking). Listen to a bootylicious dance song and get your squats on!
Don’t Work out, Jam Out
When searching for fun exercise ideas to implement, it’s helpful to remember that everything in life is a mind game, including working out. Do you run? Especially when on the treadmill, the best strategy is to distract your mind with music. And dance to it! Trust me, it’s so fun to do a few dance moves while trying not to fall off the treadmill. You may look weird to other gym-goers, but who cares? As you enjoy the music and dance to it, you’re reframing your mind from, “I’m working out and sweating to death,” to “I’m jamming out and feeling alive!”

Show The Boys Who The Queens Are
Sometimes, I think it’s possible for women, and even men, to be intimidated by more “fit” or “muscular” gym-goers. Just know that if you are paying that gym membership, or joining an online group from home, you have a right to be there. Own your space! Girls, just because men have rippling, huge, hot biceps doesn’t mean you can’t get your gains. And don’t be threatened by the other women either- you are all Queens. 🙂 Remembering this will help you be more confident as you apply your fun exercise ideas.
Pro Tip: It can also be very therapeutic to go to your local rec center, play a basketball shooting game with a group of guys, and dominate them. Nothing else in this world will give you such great joy and satisfaction! Seeing the stunned looks on boys’ faces is priceless. (Of course, like other women, men are on our team, too, on this journey of life. It is fun to beat them though, and it’s okay if you don’t win. Humans can’t win every time). 🙂
Kick Out Your Frustrations
Among this list of fun exercise ideas, this is a really good one. Sometime during your work-out, add in high kicks. Go to a floor area facing a wall. Then, visualize one thing that is frustrating you in life, such as “poor mental health.” Visualize that word in your mind, then to the beat of a song, do a high kick, pretending that you are kicking down, destroying, that thing! Do that same technique with as many words as you like. (Some of mine are “patriarchy,” “high expectations,” and “my fears”). Literally so therapeutic!
Love You, Nature
So, this depends on the weather and on your personal preference, but a workout can be transformed into a healing, magical experience when you exercise outside. You can do yoga in your local park, run on a river trail, ski in the mountains, play football in the sunshine, or have a dance party under the stars. There are LIMITLESS ways in how you can bring movement outside. Being in nature will change you.

Choose Your Style
As you apply these fun exercise ideas, remember: Do what works for you! If you like to run, run. If you like to play soccer, play soccer. Choose a sport or exercise you enjoy, whether it is in vogue or not. If you are social and like having a partner to encourage you, join a fitness group, running club, etc. If you love being alone, then exercise how you want, and enjoy the time you have to escape from the world and focus on you!

I totally agree that working out should be fun and uplifting and something that we each enjoy (whatever that looks like). Not sure I personally will be twerking anytime though! Haha
